One person was injured in an attack on the leadership of a faction of the Oodua Peoples Congress led by Sola Ojo in Ekiti State.

The attack was allegedly led by a former OPC Chairman, Niyi Adedipe, a.k.a. Apase, after a rally on Wednesday.

Apase and six others were discharged and acquitted on Monday by an Ado Ekiti High Court after three years’ trial over involvement in the murder of a former Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Omolafe Aderiye.

On Wednesday, a political party in the state held a victory parade for the seven freed members.

Ojo, who addressed a press conference, said after the parade, some hoodlums led by Apase attacked his base in Ori Apata in Adebayo area of Ado Ekiti.

“They were many and were armed with weapons such as cutlasses, guns and cudgels. We ran for our dear life, but they succeeded in injuring one of us, Tope Ajibade, aka Akoto.

“They vandalised my vehicle and took away the N250,000 I kept in the car and my cell phone. They also stole Akoto’s cell phone and money, ”he said.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Chafe, who spoke through the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Digalanji, confirmed the attack.

“The man is nowhere to be found. We are still looking for him, ”he added.
